With the recent release of Baz Luhrman’s illustrious version of The Great Gatsby, we went back in the vault and found these alluring pictures of Melissa from her very own Gatsby-esque days from a photo shoot at an exquisite vintage hotel in San Francisco.  With heartthrobs Jere Shea and Danny McDonald, Melissa had some fun as a high society girl.  This fashion shoot for an article in Vogue (and was featured on the cover of In Theatre Magazine) was done during the extended and highly acclaimed pre-Broadway run of HIGH SOCIETY at the elegant Geary Theatre in San Francisco, and in anticipation of the Broadway musical HIGH SOCIETY, a true gem with the delicious and witty score by Cole Porter.

Set in the 1930s and telling the story of the haughty but vulnerable Tracy Lord and her various men, it was based on the film High Society with Grace Kelly, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra, and The Philadelphia Story with Katherine Hepburn.  Enjoy a little of Melissa’s “Gatsby” spirit!
