“Don’t leave the room feeling you had more to give…”

Dear friends,

I’m sorry I didn’t write in August.  I was too busy thrilling to the quiet of country air and feeling the rhythms of my children’s lives.  Digging into summer in a way that we’ve never done before. I captured it on Instagram for those who like a picture journey.  (melissa_errico_fairymom)  We painted shells and the girls set up The Beach Shoppe and sold their wares.  We had visitors- my best friends and their children.  The girls went to camp. Victoria got second place in a tennis tournament, playing ten-year old girls when she just turned seven.  She was passionate on the court- calm and focused.  That is my child?  An incredible feeling to see the spirit of your own child- to see strength, courage, willingness.

I am looking forward to my speech tomorrow at The Broadway Blessing.  It will be my gentle return to the theater world, and a chance to breathe in the warmth of the community at its best.  Theater has given me everything and brought me some of the highest highs and lowest lows.  I know so many feel the same.  That’s what makes it so extraordinary.  There is nothing like it.

I feel I have a lot of gratitude to express to the book THE HAPPINESS PROJECT which I read lovingly this summer.  It made me recognize the power we all have to take steps to lighten up, clear clutter, create an atmosphere of growth (sign up for a course/class, try something you haven’t tried, eat better food) and cut people slack.  Life is short and life is long at the same time.  We need to take care of ourselves and so much good can come from small steps.  I’ll talk more about what steps I am taking.

On the work front, I ….  I think I am supposed to not say anything yet, so I won’t.  A script came my way this August and blew me away.  I’ll tell you more soon and share some of the research I am doing for the role.  I love the research stage – when you’ve just gotten involved in a project and want to learn about the general history of the era, the politics, the fashion, the writers, and ideas that were current.

I’m going to open up the COMMENTS feature here.  I’d love to talk about what is on your minds, and hear from other singers and actors and anyone.  I look forward to hearing what you’d like to talk about in future. Let’s do this together.

I’ll blog my speech once I’ve spoken it.

Love Melissa

ps. I started a cycling class and I am loving it.  I am sweating like crazy almost every day, and I am tweeting the occasional random comment from the instructors. Sometimes they just say something that is so profound I nearly fall off my bike!  One time it was “feel how different the wheel is when we get up and we get out”…. Today was “don’t leave the room feeling you had more to give.”
